This guide outlines our policies for AI transparency, student privacy, and data rights, alongside billing terms and Luminari’s role as a homeschool school of record.
1. AI Transparency (California SB 129)
Disclosure of Automated Decision-MakingLuminari utilizes proprietary artificial intelligence to curate personalized curriculum pathways and deploy agentic study nudges. These systems are designed to amplify human curiosity, not replace it. In accordance with California SB 129, we disclose that while AI helps handle the complexity of compliance, all final academic decisions remain under the oversight of the Sovereign Parent.
2. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
Verified Parental ConsentLuminari does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verified parental consent. Our platform is built for the family; student IDs and accounts must be initiated by a parent or guardian. We adhere to strict data minimization, collecting only what is necessary to maintain audit-proof school records.
3. Privacy & Data Rights (FERPA & CCPA/CPRA)
Student Record SecurityWhile Luminari is a private institution, we manage student records in accordance with the standards of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).Access: Parents have the right to inspect all academic records and "certified transcripts" at any time.California Rights: Residents have the right to know what data is collected and the right to request its deletion.No Sale of Data: Luminari does not sell or monetize student or family information. Data is shared only with state agencies for mandatory legal filings.
4. Subscription, Billing, and FTC Compliance
Automatic Renewal & Refund Policy
Luminari follows strict FTC guidelines regarding subscription transparency. By enrolling, you agree to the following:
ESA/PEP Users: To comply with state funding rules, the total 10-month school year payment is due upfront.
Private Pay: Monthly payments are processed via automatic debit.
NO REFUND POLICY: Due to the immediate costs of state compliance filings, curriculum curation, and the issuance of institutional IDs, all payments are non-refundable.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time via your dashboard. Cancellation stops future billing but does not result in a refund for current or upfront terms.
5. Institutional Status & Homeschool Compliance
Accreditation Disclosure Luminari is a registered Florida Private School (s. 1002.42, F.S.) and operates as a national school of record.
Records: We provide professional, evidence-based certified transcripts and academic records.
Accreditation Status: Luminari is currently a non-accredited institution. While our transcripts are designed to be "college-ready," families are responsible for ensuring our framework meets the specific requirements of their home state's high-regulation districts.
Sovereign Responsibility: The parent remains the primary instructor and "Sovereign Leader" of the child's education.
